Meharry Medical College is the nation’s largest private, independent historically black academic health center dedicated solely to educating minority and other health professionals. The College is particularly well known for its uniquely nurturing, highly effective educational programs; emerging preeminence in health disparities research; culturally sensitive, evidence-based health services; and significant contribution to the diversity of the nation’s health professions workforce. To date, more than 76% of our graduates practice in underserved communities and more than 60% of our graduates from the School of Medicine enter primary care.

Network, Inc. (U-CAN) will kick off the Capital City Football Classic week with
a scholarship gala on Thursday September 11, 2008 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel,
Sacramento. The gala will offer community organizations and businesses the
opportunity to make a difference in the lives of college-bound students while
enjoying an elegant evening of entertainment, food, and renowned speakers.

The Capital City Football Classic is an authentic down-home football game featuring two premier Historical Black Colleges, (HBCU) Shaw University and Texas Southern University and a Battle of the Bands during a special halftime show. The Capital City Football Classic aims to provide capital, resources, and volunteers to programs throughout Sacramento and Northern California that promotes Literacy, Education, and Cultural Diversity.

With all the drama surrounding deadly hurricanes along the Gulf Coast states and parts of Texas, colleges and universities pulled off a valiant effort to participate in the United College Action Network’s (U-CAN) College Fair in Sacramento.
Schools such as Xavier and Dillard affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita still made the trip to fulfill students on the West Coast dreams off attending a historically Black college of university.

Alan Rowe, Founder Of The United College Action Network And
Several Schools Join Together To Help Recruit Youth
The Midyear Historically Black College Recruitment Fair held
January 31-February 3, attracted close to 3,500 high school seniors from
Northern and
Central California.
The event, sponsored by The United College Action Network
(U-CAN); Grant Joint Union High School; Natomas Unified School District; United
Black Student Unions of California” Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The
Greater Sacramento Urban League and The OBSERVER Newspapers, was a huge success
doubling in size compared to last year.
