In recognition of its 20th Anniversary celebration, the United College Action Network, Inc. (U-CAN) will kick off the Capital City Football Classic week with a scholarship gala on Thursday September 11, 2008 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Sacramento.  The gala will offer community organizations and businesses the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of college-bound students while enjoying an elegant evening of entertainment, food, and renowned speakers.

The Gala will feature famed attorney Willie Gary , one of Forbes Magazine’s 50 top attorneys in the United States and one of Ebony Magazine’s  100 Most Influential African Americans;  renowned gospel singer Yolanda Adams, host of the Yolanda Adams Morning Show on Radio One stations, and celebrated actor/comedian Joe Torry who is an HBCU alumni.  This event will be hosted by Karen Massey, local reporter for News10, and Petri Byrd, bailiff on Judge Judy.

Proceeds will be used to provide a total of $25,000 in scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500 to twenty-five college bound students.  Scholarships will be awarded at the Gala.
