Area School Districts Partner with UCAN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 22, 2011 United College Action Network (UCAN) and area school districts have partnered to present the 18th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour – June 17-22, 2011.
“The HBCU Tour provides a unique opportunity to experience first-hand some of the premier HBCU’s in the nation,” said Ralph Robles, district administrator for Elk Grove Unified. “The tour is an excellent way for students to learn more about admissions requirements for several schools and experience the campus environment as well.”
Students will visit the following schools: Morgan State University, Howard University, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical (A&T) State University, Bennett College for Women, Johnson C. Smith University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Tennessee State University, Fisk University and Meharry Medical School.
An orientation meeting for parents, guardians, and students will be held on the following dates, locations and time: Wednesday, Sept 28, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m ~ Bear Creek High School ~ 10500 Thornton Rd, Stockton, CA 95209 Thursday , Sept 29, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm ~ Valley High School ~ 6300 Ehrhardt Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95823 Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm ~ Modesto High School ~ 18 H Street, Modesto, CA 95351 The total cost of the trip is $1,690.00, which is payable in one payment or installments. The cost includes roundtrip airfare from Sacramento, six days and five nights hotel accommodations (Embassy Suites, Hilton, etc.), land transportation in air-conditioned motor coaches, campus orientation tours, meetings with college admissions officials, daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks), books and group study materials, adult chaperone (school counselors/administrators) ratio of approximately 1 adult to 8 students, professional night security and four (4) pre-departure orientation meetings in Elk Grove/Sacramento, Lodi/Stockton and Modesto areas.
